Your gaze, still water’s calm, spirit serene and free
Each wish a whispered echo of earth’s decree
Laughter that scales the clouds, delighting as you will
Beneath your breadth, the very earth expands its fill
Resolute, not rigid; supple, yet unyielding—
From pliant flesh, rich fragrance softly stealing
Love ripples from your brow to every living cell
True heart embracing change, where all deep stories dwell
Peace won after passion’s storm, tempest-tossed and wild
A fossil holding fast both death and the reborn child
Each tear a footnote etched by time and love’s command
Crystallized, you journey on—a form that never fades from land

如同一块化石，凝固死亡和重生
连眼泪都是时间和爱情的注释

Blade
In poems I see my own joy and sorrow
One self is at war with another self
Inward and outward, ideals and reality
A huge rift splits the sky of words tearfully
Wind rips the moon, dark night illumines the lone wakeful one
So soon another year, across a two—year gulf you are missed
What use are ample days not spent for all they’re worth?
Tear them up like the broken—down refuse they are
I know love’s loud procession fades away
Like amber wheat—stalks beaten down by a hailstorm
The reaching grasp gets wretchedness for its pains
Harried by nightmares, self—offered to time’s blade
One self is dying, one self lives anew
Above the deathly valley, wondrous love descends

我在诗歌中看到自己的欢喜与哀愁
一个自己在跟另一个自己争斗较量
内在的与外在的，现实的与理想的
巨大的分裂撕破文字的天空流着泪
风吹破月亮，黑夜照亮孤寂的无眠
很快是另一个年了，隔着两年想你
很厚的日子过也不过完，撕掉算了
如同撕烂一张破败不堪的陈年旧事
我终于知道浩浩荡荡的爱即将消逝
如同金黄的麦穗被冰雹和雨水击碎
伸出手去握住的不过是哀痛的忧伤
恶梦与焦虑，把自己放在时间刀锋
一个自己在死亡，一个自己在新生
死亡的低谷上美好的爱也许正降临

Gao Xiuqin. Born 1969 in Jiaozhou, Shandong Province, Gao Xiuqin graduated 1998 from Peking University with a B. A. in Literature and has been employed at Peking University Press since 1998. She is now Vice President at Peking University Poetry Institute. Her major written works are China’s Countryside and City in Literature (Shaanxi People’s Education press, 2006) and MuDan: A Melancholy, suffering Soul (Beijing Shiyue Press, 2007). She is co-compiler of Special Topics in Contemporary and Modern Literature and 20th Century Chinese Literary Experience. She has published articles in key journals such as Peking University Journal and Qilu Xuekan. In poetry, she tries to make language and emotion into a seamless whole, converting emotive rhythms into poetic rhythms. She has published many poems in pen name Lady of Xiang River. She has published a poetry collection titled Lady of Xiang River’s Love letters, and prose work: Matters of Flowers (co-authored with Xie Mian).
高秀芹，1969 年11 生于山东胶州。1998 年毕业于北京 大学中文系，获文学博士学位，1998 年到北京大学出版社 工作至今，编审，诗人。兼任北京大学中国诗歌研究院副 院长。主要著作有《文学的中国城乡》（陕西人民教育出 版社，2006 年）、《穆旦：苦难与忧思铸就的灵魂》（北 京十月出版社，2007 年），参与编写《中国现当代文学专 题研究》《20 世纪中国文学经验》。在核心期刊《北京大 学学报》《齐鲁学刊》等刊物发表论文多篇。在诗歌方面， 致力于感情和语言的同构与关联，把情绪的节奏转化成诗 歌的节奏，以“湘夫人”诗名在《中国作家》等刊物发表 诗歌多首，出版诗集《湘夫人的情诗》，散文集《花事》（与 谢冕合著）。
