Remembering the Noble Spirit

The moon is always calm—whether or not it powders its face,
it still bears the freckles left by the Tang dynasty.

Newly composed folk songs do not sob,
yet the night-long sound of beating clothes for the long quest
still wrings the heart of one far from home.

West of the Yang Pass, the poet, reckless and drunk,
pours a solitary cup among flowers, tasting the loneliness of Jiuquan.

Beneath the Great Green Mountain, a white horse stands,
its reins tied to an ancient road;
the hero has loved his beauty—half the realm is but travel fare.

Before the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, I recall that noble spirit—
how many times have dreams shattered?
I lift my eyes: my body is in Xi’an, but my heart has gone to Chang’an.




忆风骨

月亮一直平静，抹不抹粉
脸上，都有嘛唐朝留下的雀斑

新编的花儿不会幽咽
夜来的捣衣声彻夜，还是让一个离人心酸

西出阳关，不知天高地厚的诗人醉着
花间一壶酒独酌，品着酒泉的孤单

大青山下一匹白马，缰绳上拴根古道
英雄把美人爱过了，半壁江山就是跋涉的盘缠

大雁塔前忆风骨，多少回梦碎
抬望眼，人在西安，心去了长安
