Pont Marie
Beyond Pont de la Tournelle,
enough green bookstalls
for André Breton's disputations,
now locking up at dusk.
To the west, upwind,
Hydrangeas on a windowsill
lean toward the riverbank. The blue hour
flicks its skirts, admitting night,
the passages of dreams.
The bridge is best for looking down.
My hands clasp the ink-green rail, still warm
as sunset fires the high stained glass.
Carried on the air above a darkened Seine
the roll of heavy bells.
Amid such wounding light,
all this.

Truth
The dead know our lies. Forest birds
know the wind at dawn.
Fruits know how earth's blood slakes.
Keening knows the grandeur of stemware.
Stones in the throat say the souls of the dead
are with us. Drink up! The wheels of the beasts need oil—
crush the people, and those teeth trying to speak truth.
The world writhes in the cleft of blind men's heads,
from whence pours darkness.

The Ocean Plays Its Wavy Record
The ocean rotates its wavy LP:
someone's coming back.
What clouds arise from a shapeless sky?
What truth gives seagulls wings?
I see on a serene face
two small blue fish enter your gaze.
Moonlight's huge net
snags our pulsing youth.
Tonight in the harbor the lighthouse
scribes its starlight on those waves.
As schooled fish surge
in currents toward the seafloor,
time's hands, in their darkroom,
reveal your own wavy waistline.
Writing the keel's arc
from this island to eternity,
my hands weld with happiness.
My feet recall the scald of rocks
above these boiling waves.
When dawn breaks into pink song
the boy rides naked
July's galloping morning.
Can a boat sail the mind?
Can murmuring lips soothe these waters?
The universe turns and turns
its old LP: the rose drinks up
your skin's gold fragrance.

和幸福焊在一起的双手;
