(Chile, 1938). Poeta, ensayista, crítico literario. Es Doctor en Filosofía por la Universidad de Maryland. Entre 1971 y 1972 fue miembro del Taller de Escritores de la Universidad de Iowa. Después fue docente de esa misma universidad por más de tres décadas.
